Two or More Bowls - ASTA Workshop

Written by Sandy Marker

The definition of a ‘bowl’ – round, deep dish or basin to hold food or liquid.

The founder of Sogetsu Sofu Teshigahara stated “you can use anything, anywhere ……”, some members took this literately plus added a little artistic licence saying ‘their containers’ fell into the category of bowls. Well they did to a certain degree because they held liquid.

Today’s challenge was – how to make two or more bowls (rather than two containers) look exciting rather than a bowl sitting inside another bowl. To avoid the ‘bowl inside bowl’ look, several were set off centre or balanced at precarious angles with floral material added to complete the arrangement.

The ASTA members commented the theme was thought provoking and challenging with a great fun element.
