17th March - Green

Written by Sandy Marker

A little late but certainly not forgotten. Finally the write up for our Ikebana class, which we held in isolation due to the COVID 19. As you may well know it takes a lot to keep an ikebana artist down so not having a place to meet we all worked from our own homes then shared images of our work online.

Trying to keep things as ‘normal’ as possible we kept the original theme ‘Green Material with vertical fixture’ Two reasons for the theme firstly it was St Patrick’s Day (17th March) hence the Green and secondly it was a test to see if everyone’s technical skills were up to ‘scratch’.

Working in isolation has some advantages such as you have far more equipment, material and containers at hand than having to lug it all along to class plus no one is securitising your working so you feel a little more relaxed. The disadvantages are, Sensei isn’t there to assist with challenges. The lack social interaction is a huge minus – no sharing of ideas, swapping plant cuttings and that wonderful cup of coffee to get us going.
