It was a privilege to have Pat Mackie from Brisbane to conduct a masterclass workshop on “Mass, Line and Colour” for us following her stage demonstration at the Ikebana International Annual Luncheon the day before where a lot of us have witnessed hers and many other members’ beautiful Ikebana compositions.

Mass is an art form and a dense core is to be created whilst the Line is important to form space and to be in harmony. She advised to use fresh materials, trim around the edges to show mass, have the mass at one side to create asymmetry and to show the container or mouth. And the don’ts are not to use leaves for line and allow spaces at the edges. All members were hugely enthusiastic creating their own Mass, Line and Colour adhering to the principles learnt.
