Alexander Evans (Practicing Teacher)

I began formal studies in Sogetsu Ikebana in 2015 having been interested in the artform, as well as Japanese culture overall, for many years prior. With a degree in Graphic Design I found I had a visual acuity that was helpful in learning this time honoured traditional artform. Having a visual arts practice that has spanned decades and covered such skills as drawing, painting, photography, ceramics and pottery as well as printmaking and design I’ve been able to bring much of that knowledge into my ikebana practice. It’s been a great joy to explore and develop as an artist in an artform where all modes of creative expression can bring something to the work whilst remaining within the realm of Sogetsu Ikebana.

At the beginning of 2019 I attained my formal qualification as a teacher of Sogetsu 4th Grade and have enjoyed the challenges and rewards of encouraging students of my own. I look forward to continuing my own learning journey as well as to passing on the knowledge I have acquired to new and continuing students of Sogetsu Ikebana in the Canberra and surrounding region.
