‘Renewed Celebrate 60’

New Dates for ‘Renewed Celebrate 60’ Gathering information

After much deliberation and soul searching and discussion with Sogetsu Headquarters, ‘Celebrate 60’ has been cancelled due to the uncertainty of COVID 9 and possible further restrictions.

Unfortunately our plans to conduct a two day event late November 2021 has been CANCELLED due to the ongoing COVID outbreaks. We are extremely disppointed but our delegates and visitor’s health is number one proirity.

We will not to be defeated by this pandemic and will endeavour to hold an event sometime in 2022 to ‘Celebrate’ not only Sogetsu Ikebana in Australia and New Zealand but the chance to meet again in happier times

What was the celebration about: 60 years of Sogetsu Ikebana in Australia and New Zealand

The NSW Branch of Australia Sogetsu Teachers’ Association is celebrating our 60th Anniversary of this wonderful art form introduced to both Australia and New Zealand in the late 1950s. When Norman Sparnon OAM returned to Australia 1959 after being in Japan for many years as an interpreter for the rebuilding of Japan, he bought back and shared his knowledge of ikebana. Read more about Norman Sparnon’s history.

About Akane Teshigahara

(The following excerpt is taken from the Sogetsu Headquarter website)

Akane Teshigahara became the fourth Iemoto of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in 2001. She has pursued the possibilities of new ikebana suitable for an ever-diversified modern space as the leader of Sogetsu, which respects free and liberated creation.

She has also actively engaged in collaborations with artists in different disciplines including painters, sculptors, musicians, and dancers, and has put time and effort into ikebana teaching of the young generation by holding the Akane Junior Class which aims to develop sensitivity and independence of children through ikebana.

In addition, she has performed Ikebana Live, where ikebana is created while incorporating various dramatic elements such as sound and light into a space on stage, in many places both in Japan and abroad.
