Autumn Colours

Written by Sandy Marker

Sydney’s climate is a mild temperate zone, which is not really conducive to creating an amazing selection of autumn colours. Having said that we do find pockets of great colours tucked in the corners of our gardens, such as ornamental grape, small maples, even birds nest ferns’ outer leaves changing colour due to being exposed some cooler days. Our Canberra members are much luckier having a wonderful selection of autumnal colours at their fingertips.

Part of the challenge in Sogetsu Ikebana is ‘making do’ with the material available so a theme such as this we have to become quite ingenious with the use of colours. Using a trained eye we soon discover subtle colour changes in our gardens for material to use in our arrangements.
