Relief work with Fabric

Written by Sandy Marker

Many different ideas resulted in wonderful arrangements for the theme ‘Relief’ which had to include some fabric.

The general consensus was how and where should the fabric be placed? I am not sure why everyone was so concerned because every exampled integrated the fabric into the relief as if was always meant to be there. The fabric was arranged in a swags or draping style to create a line element with movement, others gathered or ‘scrunched’ it into forms to give volume and so on. Jorgen created a surface with his fabric. One thing that I found intriguing was the colour of the fabric was so complementary to the natural plant material.

One point of discussion was ‘does relief work have to hang on the wall?’. We all thought it doesn’t. What is your thought?
