History of the Western Australian Branch
“Forty Years in Isolation”
The Western Australian Branch was established in 1968 in Perth, the most isolated capital city in the world, with 13 members. Under the guidance of Mr Norman Sparnon, the branch grew and this year celebrates its 40th anniversary. Our current group of 13 members meets and holds workshops every two months. Every second year we exhibit at Art In Bloom, a unique event held in the Art Gallery of WA. As part of the Australia Japan Year of Exchange, our branch exhibited in the Japan Pavilion at the Perth Royal Show, a wonderful opportunity to highlight Sogetsu Ikebana to the thousands of people who visited the Pavilion. Our branch has benefited on several occasions from visiting Master Instructors, including Ms Yoka Hosono and Mr Tetsunori Kawana. Mr Kawana held workshops in Perth as part of our 80th Sogetsu Anniversary celebrations.
