We are celebrating the introduction and the continuation of Ikebana in Australia and New Zealand for fifty years. Mr Norman Sparnon originally introduced the art to this area in the late fifties and early sixties. Norman’s love for both Sogetsu and Ikenobo Ikebana was infectious and through his inspiration and encouragement, the Art of Japanese Flower Arranging was and remains is widely followed here today. Mr Sparnon invited the founder of Sogetsu, the first Iemoto Sofu Teshigahara to Australia.

Since then the second, Iemoto Kasumi Teshigahara and third Iemoto Hiroshi Teshigahara have visited this region. Continuing with the tradition, we are honoured to welcome the fourth Iemoto, Akane Teshigahara to commemorate this event with Sogetsu members from Australia, New Zealand plus visitors from other countries.
