The only colour that registers at first glance in a garden early morning in Bowral is a misty grey green. Stop and look to discover the richness of winter colours. Through the dark glossy green leaves the bright red faces of a Tama-no-ura and other camellias appear, the red flush on the bare maple branches, soft pink mounds of Erica, dusty green Lavender, all woken up with a few flashes of bright yellow daffodils. bursting through the russet browns of last years leaves. This is not a misty grey green vision but one of beauty.

Conducting a demonstration for 36 members of the Floral Group I had the opportunity to highlight this point as artists we should ‘see what we are looking at’. I have learnt from my Sensei and visiting Masters that thorough studying the materials we are using we gain greater strength and power to our work.
